Observation from a Retail Security Guard
It has occurred to me that when we are young we perceive everything in black and white, everyone is totally bad or totally good. Life is not like that, it is only with age that we see things as they really are; there is no black or white only shades of grey, no one is totally wrong or totally right. It is with this in mind that I agree with the concept of the 'fence,' having your open hands out in front as a barrier to a potential attacker who by his actions, violent and threatening, cause you as a security guard 'fear and alarm." When these conditions occur and you are waiting for assistance from your fellow employees then you can do a pre-emptive action. People who become violent have to work themselves up to launching a physical attack on you. They want to be in your face, nose to nose, usually they puff themselves up to become more intimidating, like an alley cat sticking up its fur. I have found that this strategy has allowed me to come out on top a few times, when they are face to face put your left hand on their right shoulder and your right hand on their left elbow, then you push with your left hand and pull with your right, this turns them. You should now encircle their neck with your left forearm jab into their left kidney with a loosely formed fist or push on their coccyx, the base of their spine, with your right palm heel. This action breaks their balance and if you put your hips against theirs, you can drag/walk them out of your premises, providing you clasp your hands together and have them off balance you should not have much difficulty as long as they are moving. If they continue to struggle squeeze their neck using your left biceps muscle and the left inner forearm like a nut cracker, this turns your hold into a sleeper hold, temporary cutting the blood supply to the brain causing a knock out (Warning if pressure is continued after they pass out then death or brain damage can occur, also if they are middle aged or born suffering from high or low blood pressure this may cause a brain haemorrhage, a stroke) so be careful when applying this hold, no more than six to ten seconds.
When a person is lost their higher functioning brain shuts down and their primitive reptilian brain takes over, it is because of this that people will want to bit in a grappling situation, an example is Mike Tyson biting part of Evander Hollyfield's ear off in the heavyweight boxing championship fight. As someone who was bitten by an H.I.V. positive drug addict, it is not much fun waiting for the results of your blood test, to the relief of being given the all clear from doctors some months later. Please make sure your Hepatitis B and tetanus inoculations are up to date. If someone bites you don't do the natural reaction, to pull away, that is how your skin gets punctured, push in instead. If your forearm is being bit put your other arm behind their neck at the base of their skull, grab your other arm at the elbow and the arm that is being bit grabs your own arm at the elbow, if you push in with the arm that is being bit and pull towards you with your free arm you will be able to dislocate their jaw. If your chest is being bit put your fist, thumb side against their occipital bone, the bony prominence at the base of their skull, grab your own fist and pull towards your body, they will be unable to bite you, further pressure will dislocate their jaw.
