The latest gimmick by this discredited Labour Government is ID Cards, something which I am sorry to say is being supported by the Conservative party. It is suggested that having a compulsory ID card system will lead to a fall in terrorism, crime and illegal immigration are we supposed to believe that people who are capable of destroying the twin towers will be worried about ID cards, as for illegal immigrants if they were treated as criminals, (entering the UK is a criminal offence) instead of treating them as some lost soul. The fact ID cards are an infringement on personal liberty for ID cards to work it will be a legal obligation for each individual to carry them, the Police would have the legal right to stop you if they think you are carrying out an illegal act i.e. not carrying your ID card. How long will it be before people are taken to the police station and then fined for not carrying their ID card? ID cards where very popular with Police states like communist Russia and Nazi Germany, with Police Officers being banned from joining legal democratic political parties one can only assume this country under this Labour government is fast becoming a Police state.
It seems that so called modernizers in both government and the Police want them to become a Service to the public well surely the duty of the Police is to enforce the laws of the land whether the public like it or nor not they should be a Police Force if they did this maybe they would do a better job. The one thing that has always amazed me that the Police and their political masters will always ask the advice of Focus groups instead of asking the ordinary Police Constable and Sargent what they think because they are the ones on the front line.
While on the subject of Law and Order it was reported that the Prime Ministers wife has come up with an idea that any convicted criminal with children should not go to prison, as to imprison them would encourage their children into crime! So if you are of the criminal class (yes there is such a thing) have a loads of kids claim all the benefits, pay no tax (unless Mr. Brown is to tax thieving) keep up your criminal activities and you will always be at home. The example to these habitual criminals is long, long prison sentences and then their offspring will think twice about emulating their parents.
