Gordon helps launch Conservative immigration policy.
Gordon Henderson was asked to make an introductory speech when Michael Howard last week visited County Hall, in Maidstone, to unveil the Conservative Party’s policy on immigration.
Gordon said:
‘During my speech I explained that my team and I had undertaken a survey in Sittingbourne & Sheppey, to find out what people thought of our policy on immigration. Every single person we asked supported our plan for a fair, but firm immigration system, and most told us that it was about time somebody got to grips with the current chaos
‘People have been shocked by the amount we are spending in Kent on supporting asylum seekers. I was appalled to learn that the figures I have been quoting for the past few months fall some way short of the actual cost to Kent’s taxpayers.
‘The figures I had been given previously were that the cost of supporting asylum seekers had increased from £279,943 to £30,762,000 since Labour was elected in 1997. However, Michael Howard revealed in his speech that the actual amount spent in Kent last year was a staggering £53 million.
‘That is a tremendous burden
for Kent’s taxpayers to bear. That amount of money would provide us with an
additional 1833 police, 2485 nurses or 2108 teachers.’
