MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OUR MEMBERS
We all certainly need a Merry Christmas 2010 has been a very hard year for the Club, membership in decline and everyone in despair. So what has been behind all this despondency? You can not get away from the fact that the state of the Countries finance has not played a part in our decrease in membership, people worried about jobs etc but we must also look at our Youth today there fervour for computer games, there interest in celebrity culture and things like the X Factor gives the impression that to achieve anything all you need is to sing a song and you will be made for life. Obesity is at all time high, it has been reported that many of today’s children will die before their parents due to Obesity, Alcohol and Drug Abuse. That is why it is so important to get the message across about Exercise and Self Discipline and what a better way to do this then promote the Martial Arts and Combat Sports.
In September it was all doom and gloom but in November things are looking up our Sister Club Young Judo Club Bredgar have organised two successful Judo Tournaments and their numbers are static which is good, as for Sittingbourne after spending hundreds of pounds on advertising we have had a few enquires on Junior Judo, our Pankration Class now has a membership of 15 and Sambo class is now beginning to thrive.
Pankration is a mixture of striking and throwing without a Jacket, the reason this is becoming popular is because it has two levels. Level 1 is where they train a lot with Focus mitts, Punch bags and do some gentle take downs to submission holds this ideal for the person who just wants to get fit. Level 2 starts after the Level 1 lesson finishes this where those who like a scrap can have ago at Competition. Those who want learn the bigger more powerful throw come to Sambo, this is not for the feint hearted, the first part of the lesson is basic Sambo for both Juniors and Seniors after an hour the junior leave the mat and the adult do Sambo competition then they put on the gloves and shin pads and work out at MMA SportCombatSombo.
Message from Coach White:
Pankration
This new class has grown from strength to strength over the last few weeks and
is striking based with kicking and punching
on bags and focus mitts leading to takedowns and semi contact fighting for those
who want to (not compulsory).
Catering for all levels in both skill and fitness and participants range from
trying to get fit to competitive fighters.
Judo is still our strong point and though our numbers are low at the moment our members are still winning medals throughout Great Britain and will continue you to do so, one major thing for the new year is that Keith Costa and Dave Boulding will be doing an after School club at Wetlands in January, hopefully this will boost are members
Coach John Clarke was very pleased to have trained his first 2 adults to black belt? Jamie gaining his competitive black belt and Vicky gaining her theory black the pair of them work hard for it and both got over 95% in there exam so a very well deserved grade. He would also like to say how happy he was to see so many youngster coming through into senior Judo it is a breath of fresh air to see the likes of Ben Ashley Liam Sonny and Lorain training with him now on a Tuesday night, but it is also nice to see the old ones still giving the youngster a run for there money i.e. Ken Colin Peter and Tim. Due to a bad knee he is unable to ever compete again, which has been a hard pill to swallow but it has is giving him so much joy to be able to teach and give back to the IBF/YJC everything it has given him.
The Dojo is looking very impressive with the New Coffee Bar area and remembers a Sauna is available for members
