A NEW PUB FOR TUNSTAL?
Tunstall Village Hall was bursting at the seams on Saturday
night (3rd April 2004) as villagers enjoyed a rare treat; a night out at the pub
- without leaving the village!
Because there is no pub in Tunstall, villagers usually have to travel to Bredgar
or Borden if they want a drink, so the village hall committee thought they would
fill a gap by organising a “Pub Night”.
The organisers laid on a well stocked bar selling beer, wine and soft drinks and
a good range of pub food. There was also a range of traditional English pub
games, such as shove-halfpenny, bar skittles, dominoes, draughts and cards. In
addition customers were entertained by a “human juke-box” who, for a charge of
£1, played a request from a list of hundreds of tunes.
Among those who made good use of the “pub” was Gordon Henderson, who is the
Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the area, and local ward
councillors Alan and Jean Willicombe.
Mr Henderson said:
‘I had a great evening and I’d like to congratulate the organisers on their
ingenuity. There was a real pub atmosphere in the village hall and it was
packed. My mum and dad live in Hearts Delight Road so it was nice to be able to
have a drink with them at a venue so close to their home.
‘Of course, all the proceeds went towards the upkeep of the village hall, so it
was particularly satisfying knowing that we were having a booze-up for a good
cause!’
